Accompanying note: "’She just goes ahead and cuts like some [palmetto fibers] for the four inch, and some for the six inch, and you know, the body. It’s always been like that, different sizes.’ From one palmetto, Mary Billie sometimes gets enough fiber for four or five dolls."

The Blue Things – Doll House

From the Blue Things’ self-titled RCA LP from 1966, a song that tells the story of a young girl trapped in a life as a prostitute. Unusually adult subject matter for a mid-sixties teen pop group to attempt, but the Blue Things do it brilliantly. Written by Marge Barton, lead vocals by Val Stecklein, and now available on LET THE BLUE THINGS BLOW YOUR MIND, a 2-CD retrospective at www.cicadelic.com.
